My present focus is on starting a new formal diagnostic radiology consult service at Yale New Haven Hospital. The idea is for a diagnostic radiologist to act as a consultant in a way analogous to other consultants such as nephrology, cardiology, etc. As part of this effort, I am particularly interested in communication and miscommunication between clinicians and radiologists. I am also interested in technology to improve diagnosis including the use of machine learning and expert systems.
Other ongoing work has been in noninvasive imaging of coronary atherosclerotic plaque using computed tomography angiography. For example, we have correlated various measures of disease burden with the Framingham risk scores. Our present project is to obtain clinical follow-up on a cohort of almost 7000 patients in order to find those imaging features most predictive of coronary events.
